Oh, the humble button-down shirt! It has to be one of the most quintessential pieces in any lady’s wardrobe - next to the highly coveted Little Black Dress, of course! It’s hard not to love, when you can easily dress it up or down to suit any occasion or mood. So with that in mind, here’s a run-down of the depths of where this staple can take you:
PRETTY PREPPY
This is the form that most of us are familiar with – crisp, white and long-sleeved. Channel your inner Cher from the movie Clueless by pairing it with a tartan skirt or tap into your inner Boss Lady and French Tuck it underneath wide-legged pants. For some additional insights on how to pull off that preppy look, have a read of College Fashion’s guide to this particular style trend.
FUN & FLIRTY
Going out on a first date can be pretty nerve racking! We totally understand. You want to put your best stiletto-clad foot forward but keep yourself comfortable so you can enjoy the company. The goal is to look EFFORTLESSLY stunning. When you’re looking for a look that says “I just threw this on”, go for a cute button-down shirt, dark skinny jeans or a flowy skirt and nude heels combo.
BRING BACK THE 90s
It’s no longer the year most of us were outside playing Patintero or Chinese Garter and complaining for the forced afternoon naps. The 90s is already a legit fashion era. Can you believe it? Younger kids, you can thank us for that! Bring out the brightly-colored and printed shirts that you were hiding in the closet. For a more updated, grown-up look, choose a silk, short-sleeved button-down and pair it with high waisted jeans or wide-legged trousers.
GET EDGY
In BNY Jeans’ women’s clothing section you can see a number of edgy button-down shirts that bring out the inner rebel in you. Try them on with a leather skirt or some tight shorts to balance out the skin.
